Programming languages and parallel runtimes
Higher Order Company
Higher Order Company researches programming languages and runtimes for parallel computation. Its work includes the Higher-order Virtual Machine, or HVM, and Bend, a high-level language designed for parallel computation across CPUs and GPUs. Victor Taelin identifies himself as a founder of the company and is an AI Engineer Code 2026 speaker.
The company’s HVM2 research describes an evaluator based on interaction combinators, a model that represents computation as interactions in a graph. The original Bend repository describes the language as powered by HVM2; both projects made source code available for developers to examine and use.
The newer Bend project combines parallel execution with dependent types and proof checking. Its maintainers describe a workflow where teams express application rules as laws and ask coding agents to provide proofs that changes satisfy them. Those proofs apply to the properties expressed in the laws; they are not a general guarantee that a program is free from all defects.
