Restate

Restate develops a durable execution runtime for AI agents, backend services, and workflows. Its approach keeps business logic in ordinary application code while recording execution progress in a journal. During recovery, the runtime uses recorded results to preserve completed work and continue from the first unfinished step.

Restate’s credited conference work includes Giselle van Dongen’s talk, “Every step you take, every call you make: the reliable agent stack.” The presentation examines retries, recovery, session isolation, and cancellation beneath the agent loop. A Slack research-agent demonstration illustrates recovery from a failed tool call, updates to an ongoing research task, and cancellation that propagates through subordinate agents.

Restate’s July 7, 2026 announcements describe two infrastructure developments: BYOC, a managed deployment within a customer’s cloud account and VPC, and version 1.7’s Virtual Queues for controlling concurrency across organizational, team, and user scopes. The release announcement describes Virtual Queues as opt-in and still evolving; these dated sources do not establish the company’s latest release or availability.
