Bio, Work & Ideas

Cole Gannaway

Cole Gannaway is a software and solutions engineer. His career spans software development, enterprise infrastructure consulting, and helping large engineering teams adopt secure, AI-assisted development practices.

Gannaway worked as an implementation consultant at Fast Enterprises, optimizing SQL queries for the Louisiana Department of Revenue to reduce response times. At Lockheed Martin, he developed submarine-detection software and optimized browser-based 3D rendering to display more than a million points simultaneously.

He then moved into solutions engineering at SHI, advising enterprise customers on data centers, networking, security, and backup and recovery across on-premises and cloud infrastructure. He later joined Sonar, where his work as a majors solutions engineer and team lead included helping Fortune 100 customers adopt secure, AI-enabled development and mentoring fellow solutions engineers. He also worked with sales colleagues on product demonstrations and customer onboarding.

His project work spans software utilities and physical product design:

  • Sudoku Solver. Gannaway built a solver supporting grids up to 64 × 64 cells and letter-based Hexadoku. Its Java back end supports parallel execution using multiple threads and is hosted on AWS Lambda. A browser interface lets users enter puzzles and follow the solving process step by step.
  • Financial Planner. His React application turns recurring income and expenses into visual projections extending up to 20 years. Users can export their data to CSV files, save and edit them locally in a spreadsheet, and import them again.
  • Dip ’N Drive. Gannaway has contributed as a design engineer to this condiment container, invented by Sam Gannaway. It sits on a drink cup, rests flat on a table, and stacks with other containers.
