Atlan

Atlan builds an enterprise context platform that connects data catalogs, business definitions, lineage and access policies for analysts, governance teams and AI builders. Its Context Agents generate documentation and business semantics for human review, while Context Engineering Studio turns dashboards and historical SQL into automated tests for agents. Context Repos package business knowledge into versioned, certifiable units. Together, these tools let teams document their data, test how agents interpret it and share approved context through MCP, SQL and APIs.

Co-founders Prukalpa Sankar and Varun Banka previously built SocialCops, a data-for-good company; Atlan was incubated during their work on India’s National Data Platform. Sankar serves as CEO and Banka as co-CEO. Its Context Lakehouse combines a knowledge graph for relationships and meaning with Apache Iceberg storage, semantic search and historical state retrieval. This architecture lets teams query context independently through compatible engines and reconstruct the information available at a particular point in time.

As of August 2026, Atlan reported 400+ enterprise customers; its deployments include Workday, Mastercard and General Motors. In 2024, it raised a $105 million Series C led by GIC and Meritech Capital, bringing total funding to more than $206 million. At that announcement, the company reported revenue growth of more than sevenfold over the preceding two years.
