What does skit doctor check?
Before Codex or Claude Code opens a skill, it sees a list of names and descriptions. When that list grows too long, descriptions can be shortened or left out. Run the doctor in your project to see which skills are competing for that space.
At 150 characters, only 1,762 of the 9,902 measured descriptions fit in full. Select find-skills and move the cutoff past character 194 to see its instruction about when to use the skill begin to appear. Switch collections to compare the result with a different set of installed skills. Source: Description Cut Collections.
- Inspect the listing.
skit doctor --report-onlyshows estimated demand against each agent’s listing budget and flags duplicate skill locations. The estimate covers the listing your agent sees before it opens a fullSKILL.md. - Preview a cleanup. If a listing is over budget,
skit doctor --dry-runlets you select managed skills and see how much space disabling them would free. Suggestions use the last 30 days of available local activity. A skill missing from that history may still be worth keeping. - Apply your selection. Run
skit doctorin an interactive terminal to review and confirm which skills to disable. Disabled skills stay in your library so you can enable them again.
Install the CLI with npm install -g @smolai/skit. For machine-readable diagnostics, run skit doctor --json. Read the SKIT usage guide.
