AXA provides property and casualty, life and health insurance, alongside savings and pension products for individuals and businesses. Customers can insure homes, cars, commercial buildings and machinery, cover personal and professional liability, and protect their families against health and life risks. Its AXA EssentiALL business unit develops affordable, accessible coverage for people and businesses with inadequate insurance.

Founded by Claude Bébéar, the group adopted the AXA name in 1985. Thomas Buberl has served as CEO since 2016. Its technical research includes Introspection-Net, introduced by AXA Services researchers in 2019: a three-layer neural network that examines a pretrained classifier’s logits to estimate whether its predictions are correct. The work investigated detecting ordinary errors, unfamiliar inputs and adversarial examples without retraining the original classifier.

AXA reported €116 billion in gross written premiums and other revenues in 2025. That year, it completed the sale of AXA Investment Managers to BNP Paribas, with the related Select sale bringing the total transaction value to €5.4 billion. BNP Paribas became a long-term provider of investment-management services to AXA, while AXA retained authority over product design, asset allocation and asset-liability management.
