Bench Computing

Bench Computing developed Bench, an AI workspace for individual professionals, teams and companies. Users described a task, and the workspace combined AI models, tools and information sources to carry it out. Its documented capabilities in 2025 included web research, data analysis, fact-checking, report generation, PowerPoint creation and working with email. A browser extension also let Bench browse the web as the user.

Bench’s approach paired automated planning with user control. Models selected and configured tools, then used their results to determine subsequent steps. Users could interrupt the process with natural-language instructions, change tool parameters, rerun tools and select models. Its task builder let people combine what they wanted to do, which information sources to use and what to create; a prompt rewriter assembled those choices into instructions with optional fields for more detail.

Incubated and backed by Sutter Hill Ventures, Bench initially opened to a limited group of users for feedback. Its documented product design focused on making broad AI capabilities accessible through concrete work tasks, including researching sales prospects, preparing for meetings and summarizing customer feedback.
