AI agent orchestration and workflow automation
crewAI
crewAI builds software for developers and business teams to automate work with AI agents, including reporting, onboarding, and support workflows. Its open-source Python framework coordinates agents and workflow logic, while Crew Studio lets teams describe a process in natural language and generate a working flow. Studio connects to more than 1,000 applications and includes reusable agents, source-code export, testing, tracing, and deployment, giving engineers code they can inspect and extend.
Founder and CEO João Moura released the framework in 2023, after experimenting with agents while working at Clearbit. The company launched in 2024 with cofounder Rob Bailey. Its technical approach pairs Crews, teams of specialized agents that collaborate on tasks, with Flows, event-driven workflows that control execution paths, state, and branching. Developers can place autonomous agent work inside explicit workflow steps while keeping application logic in Python.
The commercial CrewAI AMP Suite adds deployment management, observability, governance, and enterprise support around the framework. Enterprise plans support CrewAI cloud, customer VPCs, or customer infrastructure, alongside a free entry tier. In January 2026, the company reported approximately 2 billion agentic system executions over the preceding 12 months. Its work with DocuSign illustrates the application: agents research leads, compose outreach, and validate quality within a controlled sales workflow.
