Deno

Deno builds developer tools and cloud infrastructure for JavaScript and TypeScript applications. Its open-source Deno runtime runs Node projects and npm packages, with built-in testing, formatting, linting and type checking. Deno Deploy, generally available since 2026, gives application teams framework-aware builds, deployment previews, databases and automatic logs, traces and metrics. Deno Sandbox extends the platform with programmatically managed Linux microVMs for running untrusted code, including code generated by AI.

Ryan Dahl, the creator of Node.js, and Bert Belder founded the company after collaborating on the runtime; they serve as CEO and CTO, respectively. Deno combines a Rust implementation with explicit permissions for filesystem, network and environment access, which are blocked by default. Its JSR package registry extends this attention to developer tooling: authors publish TypeScript source, receive automatically generated documentation and can attach Sigstore provenance. Packages work with existing npm tooling, allowing incremental adoption.

In August 2026, the company reported 400,000+ monthly active users and more than 100,000 GitHub stars. Its commercial offering centers on hosted infrastructure: Deno Deploy offers a free tier, paid plans that scale with usage and custom enterprise pricing for teams needing additional security, support and performance.
