Firecrawl

Firecrawl builds a web data API that lets developers give AI agents access to websites. Search returns results with page content; Scrape converts URLs into Markdown or structured JSON; Interact lets agents click, fill forms and navigate to information. Teams use these capabilities for research agents, retrieval pipelines and lead enrichment. Developers can integrate through SDKs, a CLI or the Model Context Protocol.

Founded by Caleb Peffer, its CEO, Eric Ciarla and Nicolas Silberstein Camara, its CTO, Firecrawl grew out of Mendable, the team’s AI chat product for documentation. Building Mendable exposed the difficulty of obtaining clean web data, prompting a shift toward shared crawling and extraction infrastructure. Firecrawl’s open-source software can be self-hosted; its hosted service adds proprietary Fire-engine infrastructure for proxies and rendering, alongside browser interaction and analytics.

Alexandria extends that approach beyond individual webpages, bringing official data providers, custom connectors and specialized indexes into a common interface for discovering and retrieving information. Its Research, Developer and Government indexes cover scientific literature, software documentation and repository artifacts, and legal materials. Firecrawl pays providers including Wikimedia Enterprise for direct data access. In September 2026, the company reported over 1.5 million users and announced $75 million in Series B funding, supporting further investment in search, indexes and provider access.
