AI code review and change verification
Gitar builds an AI code review and verification platform for software engineering teams, including open-source maintainers and enterprise platform teams. It reviews pull requests using codebase context and team conventions, suggests fixes, and diagnoses continuous integration (CI) failures. Its work focuses on getting changes ready to merge, including code produced by coding agents. Users include teams maintaining OpenMetadata and mobile engineers at SoFi.
Gitar connects review to a fix-and-check workflow: it can generate changes, commit them to a branch, monitor existing CI jobs and iterate on failures. Teams define what it may fix, when it must escalate and what blocks a merge through natural-language rules versioned in their repositories. Its generative AI review examines a change’s logic and intent to identify functional and behavioral problems; CI analysis separates code failures from flaky tests and infrastructure issues. Developers can request changes directly, while platform teams can track review cycles, failure patterns and fix rates across repositories.
Sonar acquired Gitar in May 2026, retaining it as a standalone product. Gitar also works alongside SonarQube: Gitar examines changes in context, while SonarQube applies deterministic analysis and defined quality gates to security, reliability and architectural issues. The acquisition brings these complementary approaches under the same owner.
