AI analytics and collaborative data science
Hex builds an AI analytics platform for analysts, data scientists, business users, and executives. Users can ask questions in plain language, investigate data with SQL and Python, and turn analyses into interactive apps, dashboards, and reports. Its shared workspace connects exploration and publishing with business definitions and data permissions. Context Studio lets data teams inspect the context, queries, and steps behind an answer, while evaluations help measure answer quality and catch regressions.
Founded in 2019 by Barry McCardel, its CEO, Caitlin Colgrove, and Glen Takahashi, Hex grew from the founders’ experience working together at Palantir and struggling to share analytical work. Its reactive notebook engine parses code into a dependency graph and automatically reruns dependent cells, keeping execution consistent as analysis changes. Hex also developed DataBench, which tests analytical reasoning through 100 tasks in a synthetic business environment. The benchmark evaluates open-ended judgment as well as numerical answers, including situations where plausible conclusions are unsupported.
In 2026, the company reported serving over 2,000 customers globally, spanning AI labs and regulated banks. Its financing milestones include a $70 million Series C announced in 2025.

Dr Bryan Bischof distinguishes senior software and machine-learning engineering skills from research roles, connecting team composition with infrastructure maturity and domain expertise.
The discussion with Bryan Bischof, Chris White, and moderator Brittany Walker connects Hex Magic and text-to-SQL design with rollout strategy, model evaluation, and measuring product-level returns.
The shared session featuring Dr Bryan Bischof examines production evaluations, monitoring, and guardrails alongside the strategic tradeoff of switching model providers as capabilities and costs change.
