Inngest provides durable execution infrastructure for developers building background jobs, event-driven workflows and AI agents. Its SDK adds steps to existing application code that retry independently, pause for input and resume without restarting completed work. Developers can configure per-tenant concurrency, rate limits and throttling, then inspect and replay executions. Inngest Insights supports SQL queries over execution data, while Agent Evals adds scoring and experiments tied to agent outcomes. The platform supports local execution and Inngest Cloud, with application code deployed on servers or serverless infrastructure.

Founded in 2021 by Tony Holdstock-Brown, its CEO, and Dan Farrelly, its CTO, Inngest brings workflow state and execution controls into the application codebase. Its Checkpointing approach runs synchronous steps consecutively and saves their outputs through an API, reducing the need to queue another request between steps. Asynchronous operations, such as sleeping, use its asynchronous executor. This hybrid approach reduces coordination overhead while preserving workflow state.

Inngest reported analyzing product-event data for 50,000 of its most active users in 2026. In 2025, it raised a $21 million Series A led by Altimeter, with participation from a16z, Notable, Afore and Guillermo Rauch.
