Jump Trading

Jump Trading is a global trading firm that develops its own strategies, models and infrastructure for financial markets. Its trading business spans equities, options, credit, commodities, digital assets and futures, with strategies ranging from high-frequency trading and statistical arbitrage to discretionary macro. Researchers, engineers and traders work together to move ideas from research into live trading. Jump Trading Group does not offer investment services to the public.

Jump’s AI and machine-learning work includes forecasting changing market conditions, extracting signals from unstructured data and running real-time inference. The challenge extends beyond building an accurate model: market patterns change, profitable signals erode as competitors discover them, and noisy data can produce misleading results. Some AI specialists work within trading teams to develop expertise in particular markets. Central teams build shared infrastructure, custom foundation models and LLM agents integrated into the firm’s tools and data, supporting both trading decisions and the research process.

Under CTO Alex Davies, Jump’s engineering organization builds custom chips, networks, distributed systems and research software. Its hardware includes application-specific integrated circuits and programmable chips for low-latency and compute-intensive workloads; its software includes storage, simulation and analytics platforms used in trading and AI research. Jump reports three purpose-built research data centers and more than 100 exchange-adjacent compute environments. That infrastructure supports two distinct demands: large-scale experimentation and fast execution near the markets where the firm trades.

Jump also participates in the market for computing capacity through a dedicated compute-trading desk. Affaan Mustafa and Alejandro Soumah Fernandez co-lead the desk; Mustafa co-founded Itô Markets, which Jump acquired. Their work on compute markets concerns GPU capacity, financing and the connections between buyers and suppliers.
