Latent Space University

Latent Space University teaches software developers how to build AI applications through AI for Engineers, a seven-part email course requiring only basic Python and REST API knowledge. Its lessons cover model APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, code and image generation, speech recognition, running and fine-tuning open models, and agents. Learners progress from building a chatbot to combining retrieval, transcription, image generation, and code tools in a single application.

Shawn “Swyx” Wang helped develop the initiative, with Noah Hein running Latent Space University and joining Wang as a live-course instructor. The email lessons appeared across 2023–2024. Their practical emphasis is on integrating existing models and tools: the final lesson brings earlier exercises together into an agent while introducing memory, planning, tool use, and evaluation.

The teaching also extended to Maven through Level Up From Software Engineer to AI Engineer, a three-week course designed for software engineers moving into AI and independent developers building AI products. It combined live sessions, projects, and peer learning. That Maven course is no longer available; the seven email lessons remain publicly readable in the Buttondown archive.
