LexisNexis provides legal and business research, analytics, and workflow software for law firms, corporate legal teams, government agencies, and business professionals. Lexis+ with Protégé supports conversational research, document analysis, drafting, and review, combining legal content, organizational documents, and Shepard’s citation intelligence. Lexis Create+ brings legal drafting into Microsoft Word, while Nexis provides news and company information for business research.

Its predecessor, Mead Data Central, was established in 1970 under H. Donald Wilson and Jerome Rubin. Lexis launched in 1973 with full-text searches of codes and cases; Nexis followed in 1979. That retrieval heritage continues in Protégé’s use of semantic search, citation validation, and a knowledge graph linking legal datasets. Mike Walsh leads Legal & Professional and, since July 2026, Risk Solutions; they remain separate RELX divisions. Sean Fitzpatrick serves as CEO of LexisNexis Legal.

LexisNexis Legal & Professional sells primarily through paid subscriptions, often under multiyear contracts. RELX reported £1.806 billion in 2025 revenue for the business, with subscriptions accounting for 85%. Its 2025 report also recorded adoption of Lexis+ AI, now called Lexis+ with Protégé, by more than half of US new and renewing customers. The 2026 acquisition of Globe Law and Business added specialist, practitioner-authored titles to its legal content library.
