Mobility and transportation
Lyft operates a transportation platform offering rideshare, taxis, private hire vehicles, executive chauffeur services, car sharing, bikes and scooters. Riders use its services for everyday commutes and other journeys, while drivers earn money providing rides.
Founded in 2012 by Logan Green and John Zimmer, Lyft is led by David Risher, who has served as CEO since 2023. Its transportation operations include partnerships with established operators: Lyft expanded its Curb partnership to New York City in 2026 to broaden access to licensed taxis.
Lyft completed its acquisition of Freenow in 2025, adding a European mobility app centered on taxis and expanding into nine countries and more than 180 cities beyond North America. Finalized purchase consideration was €205.9 million ($236.8 million). Across its platform, Lyft reported 30.5 million Active Riders in Q2 2026, a measure of unique riders who took at least one ride during the quarter.
