Nearform

Nearform is a global engineering consultancy that builds custom software, platforms, and data and AI systems for enterprises, including organisations in complex, regulated industries. Its work spans strategy, design and delivery. For banks, this includes automating anti-money-laundering remediation with human oversight, supporting personalised wealth management and modernising legacy infrastructure. Its AI-native engineering approach pairs senior product, design, data and engineering teams with AI agents and embeds engineers in clients’ business and technology environments.

Founded in 2011 by Cian Ó Maidín and Richard Rodger, Nearform initially focused on helping businesses build platforms with Node.js. Ciaran Cosgrave is its current CEO. Open-source engineering remains part of its work: the company has contributed to Node.js since its founding and created Fastify, a low-overhead web framework for Node.js that it continues to sponsor and develop. Its open-source projects also include Victory, React components for interactive data visualisation.

Nearform acquired Formidable in 2023, adding a Seattle-founded design and engineering consultancy to its enterprise software business. Its client base includes Lululemon, Sun Life, Travelex and the Government of Ireland. The company operates through hubs in the United States, UK and Ireland, supported by delivery teams across Europe and Brazil.
