Progress Software builds software for developing business applications, managing enterprise data and operating IT infrastructure. Developers use OpenEdge to build and run business applications, and Telerik and Kendo UI to create .NET and JavaScript interfaces. Its data products include MarkLogic for multi-model data management and DataDirect for connecting cloud and on-premises data sources. Agentic RAG provides retrieval as a service, giving AI agents access to information across unstructured data formats. Chef supports infrastructure automation, while MOVEit handles managed file transfers.

Founded in 1981 by Joseph Alsop, Clyde Kessel, Mary Székely and Chip Ziering, the company began as Data Language Corporation; Yogesh Gupta is its current CEO. Its enduring technical approach is visible in OpenEdge’s Advanced Business Language, a fourth-generation language designed for business processes. ABL combines English-like syntax, an integrated development environment and close integration with the OpenEdge relational database, with deployment across on-premises and cloud environments.

Progress reported in 2025 that OpenEdge powered applications for more than 47,000 businesses. Its broader portfolio serves enterprises, independent software vendors, equipment manufacturers and system integrators. In July 2026, Progress agreed to acquire Domo’s AI and data platform business through an asset purchase with a $400 million base cash price, subject to adjustments. The transaction remained pending in Domo’s August 24 filing.
