Project NANDA

Project NANDA develops open, decentralized infrastructure that lets AI agents discover one another, communicate, and coordinate across platforms. Its protocols and registries address identity, trust, and interoperability. Nanda Town, its open-source Python sandbox, gives researchers, developers, and protocol designers a way to test agent interactions using YAML scenarios and inspect recorded messages. It supports both repeatable scripted simulations and experiments with language-model-backed agents.

Founded in 2025 by Ramesh Raskar, with Gunjan Sinha as co-founder, NANDA is the flagship project of the Foundation for Agentic Networks, whose president and CEO is Chris Pease. Raskar also leads the supporting MIT Media Lab AGNI research projects as principal investigator. A lasting technical contribution is the NANDA Index architecture: a lean index points to cryptographically verifiable AgentFacts describing agent capabilities and endpoints. Its research specifies distributed updates and privacy-preserving discovery across organizational boundaries.

In August 2026, the project reported Civic Agents hubs in India, Boston, and Milan organizing work on technology, policy, and public-service use cases. MIT lists AGNI research sponsorship at $50,000 per research theme, or $100,000 for both, with active Media Lab Consortium membership required.
