Resonate HQ builds durable execution software for developers running distributed applications and AI agents. Its server and SDKs let developers write ordinary async functions while the runtime coordinates execution and recovery. Workflows can pause for human input, distribute work, and resume from checkpoints after a process failure. Developers can run the server alongside their applications with state in their own Postgres database; resonate-pg implements the server directly in Postgres, supporting workflows and agents on Supabase.

Founded in 2023 by Dominik Tornow, its CEO, and David Farr, the company develops Distributed Async Await, an open protocol for durable execution. Its core primitive is a durable promise: execution state persists outside the process that created it. Conformant servers and SDKs interoperate, and an executable specification in Lean 4 defines the protocol’s core behavior. The core Resonate server and SDKs use Apache 2.0 licensing; separate NATS and ScyllaDB implementations are source-available under BUSL 1.1.

Resonate announced $3 million in seed funding in 2025, backed by investors including Amplify, Firestreak, and Industry Ventures. The financing supported its work on a distributed programming model with coordination, dependency management, and failure recovery built into execution.
