Smithery

Smithery connects AI agents to external services through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Its public registry and hosting platform help developers discover, run and publish tools for chatbots, background agents and AI copilots. Available integrations let agents search the web, query databases, control browsers and access business applications. Publishers can distribute their MCP servers through Smithery and inspect how their tools are used.

Smithery was co-founded by Henry Mao, its CEO, and Anirudh Kamath. Its engineering approach combines tool discovery with managed connections: Smithery Connect uses agent.pw, its open-source credential vault, while the platform handles OAuth flows, token refresh and connection lifecycles. Credentials use encrypted, write-only storage. Connected accounts can be reused across chat agents, background agents and command-line tools, including those using Claude, GPT and open-source models.

Smithery became part of Arcade.dev through a completed acquisition announced in August 2026, with Kamath joining the Arcade team. The acquisition places its developer-facing registry and hosting platform alongside Arcade’s enterprise agent runtime for security and governance. Smithery remains available to developers; its website listed more than 17,300 MCPs in August 2026, a measure of catalog breadth.
