Mobile games and game development
Supercell develops mobile games including Clash of Clans, Hay Day, Clash Royale, Boom Beach and Brawl Stars. Based in Helsinki, Finland, it designs games for people to return to over years. Hay Day combines farming with real-time trading, letting players buy and sell ingredients among themselves; Clash of Clans grew from the ambition to make real-time strategy accessible through touch controls and social play.
Founded in 2010, Supercell initially pursued games playable across devices. Its first game, Gunshine.net, launched in beta in 2011, but struggled to retain players and translate its mouse-and-keyboard experience to mobile. The company stopped its web and Facebook productions and focused on tablets, later shifting to mobile more broadly. Hay Day and Clash of Clans both launched globally in 2012.
Supercell gives development teams independence over what they build and how they build it. Its development process includes an internal playable milestone, and it has discontinued many projects rather than take them through release.
