Tesla designs, manufactures, sells and leases electric vehicles and energy generation and storage systems. Powerwall stores electricity for homes and small commercial facilities, while Megapack serves commercial, industrial and utility customers. Its solar panels and Solar Roof integrate with Powerwall. Vehicle software includes Full Self-Driving (Supervised), and its Robotaxi ride-hailing service launched in 2025.

Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning founded Tesla in 2003, initially targeting high-end electric vehicles before the mass market. Elon Musk has served as CEO since 2008. Tesla’s AI engineering combines vision-based neural networks with custom inference chips, and it is applying its driving-technology experience to Optimus, a general-purpose humanoid robot still in development. Its energy products also reuse vehicle component technologies, with modular batteries and software for remotely controlling and dispatching stored energy.

Tesla generally sells directly to customers, combining hardware sales and leases with software subscriptions, servicing and paid charging. Its Supercharger network also provides access to non-Tesla vehicles. The company reported approximately 1.64 million consumer vehicle deliveries and 46.7 GWh of energy storage deployments in 2025, illustrating the scale of both its automotive and energy operations.
