Rail and coach ticketing technology

Trainline

Trainline sells rail and coach tickets through its website and app, bringing together routes, fares and journey times from over 270 operators in 40 countries as of August 2026. Travellers can compare journeys, book tickets and receive live travel information. Trainline Partner Solutions extends its technology to travel management companies, corporate booking and carrier-branded ticket sales platforms.

Established by Virgin Group in 1997 as a telephone ticket service, Trainline listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2019. Jody Ford remains CEO, with Ian Brown scheduled to succeed him on 28 September 2026. Its Price Prediction feature applies historical ticket pricing trends to estimate when available UK Advance fares may rise, helping travellers decide when to book where sufficient data exists.

The company’s Platform One gives business partners a single connection to rail carriers, fares, ticket types and railcards across the UK and Europe. This addresses the integration work otherwise required across operators’ non-public APIs, accreditations and financial bonding obligations. For the year ended February 2026, Trainline reported 27 million active customers across the UK and Europe, defined as customers who transacted at least once during the preceding 12 months, and £453 million in revenue. Trainline Business separately reported over 35,000 active business clients for FY2026.
