Conference affiliation: Co-Founder and Co-CEO · Runway · 2026
Cristóbal Valenzuela co-founded Runway after working as a researcher at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He has traced the company’s experiments in moving images from an early 128-by-128-pixel film to models that can generate and respond to changes in a scene.
Valenzuela’s interest extends beyond the quality of a single clip. In his account of world models, predicting what happens next requires a system to learn regularities such as whether an object should still be present after it passes out of view. Runway’s Continuum research prototype explores what it would mean for a viewer to interact with that process as it happens.
