Team collaboration, work management, and enterprise AI

Atlassian

Atlassian builds software that helps teams coordinate work and share the knowledge behind it. Jira supports project planning and tracking, while Confluence brings documents and discussion into a shared workspace. Its products serve developers, product managers, IT professionals, business teams and leadership, from startups to enterprises. Together, they cover both the work a team needs to deliver and the information people need to understand it.

Founded by Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar in 2002, Atlassian grew out of a practical problem: the founders were providing support services and disliked the bug-tracking software they used. They built Jira and shifted to selling their own product. An early self-service purchasing model let customers buy without a traditional sales conversation. Confluence followed in 2003, extending the company’s focus from tracking issues to sharing knowledge.

That combination underpins Rovo, Atlassian’s AI search, chat and agent offering. Its Teamwork Graph connects people, goals, code and content across Atlassian and connected applications, preserving relationships such as project ownership and decision history. This gives agents context beyond an isolated document or ticket. Customers can connect proprietary systems through Forge connectors while retaining access controls. Atlassian MCP also lets external AI tools use this context and act on work—for example, turning a Loom meeting transcript into Jira tasks and Confluence pages.
