Auth0

Auth0 provides authentication and authorization for customer applications, APIs, and AI agents as part of Okta. Developers use its platform to add passwordless login, adaptive multifactor authentication, enterprise single sign-on, and multi-tenant access controls. Auth0 for AI Agents extends identity management to agents accessing external services, retrieval-augmented generation data sources, and Model Context Protocol tools, with human approval for critical transactions. Its SDKs let application teams integrate identity capabilities without building the underlying systems themselves.

Eugenio Pace and Matias Woloski founded Auth0 in 2013. Its engineering contributions include OpenFGA, the open-source engine introduced in 2022 to power Auth0 Fine-Grained Authorization. Inspired by Google’s Zanzibar, OpenFGA represents relationships between users and resources so applications can check permissions, including access inherited through organizational hierarchies. In 2026, Okta brought both platforms’ product and engineering organizations under Ric Smith, President of Products and Technology, while retaining Auth0’s focus on developers and customer identity.

As of August 2026, Auth0 reported more than 23 billion authentications per month, a measure of transaction volume. Okta completed its acquisition of Auth0 in 2021, describing the stock transaction at closing as valued at approximately $6.5 billion.
