AI relationship coaching
CoupleWork AI offers relationship coaching for couples and individuals through Maxine, an AI coach users can speak or text with about communication, recurring conflict, intimacy, and relationship patterns. Maxine retains context across sessions, while the What Matters question library helps users explore values, emotional needs, and relationship history. The app provides coaching, not therapy: it does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions.
Developed by BetterLabs AI, CoupleWork was co-founded by licensed couples therapist Clay Cockrell and Tony Fabrikant, a former chief technology officer at S&P Global. Cockrell contributes clinical knowledge, while Fabrikant develops the technical architecture. Maxine draws on the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Its backend combines multiple AI agents for tasks involving safety, conversational continuity, and tone, applying established relationship frameworks.
The service is available on iOS and Android, with one subscription covering both partners and unlimited voice and text sessions. Separate individual and shared spaces support private reflection alongside joint conversations; text partner sessions can work across locations. Google Play displayed 1,000-plus Android downloads as of August 2026.
