Workflow orchestration and AI agent infrastructure

Orkes

Orkes builds Orkes Conductor, a platform for developers and enterprise teams to coordinate AI agents, microservices and people in business processes. Teams can design workflows visually or in code, combining model reasoning with defined execution steps. Its customers span applications beyond AI: in February 2024, Orkes described United Wholesale Mortgage using Conductor to build complex applications, Foxtel using it for distributed digital processes, and Collective using it to automate back-office workflows.

The company grew out of the team that developed the open-source Conductor project at Netflix. Orkes’s co-founders are Jeu George, Viren Baraiya and Dilip Lukose. That orchestration foundation now supports agents and conventional workflows together: agents can invoke workflows, and workflows can invoke agents. Execution preserves state across failures, restarts and long waits, while human approval steps pause a process until a decision arrives. Operators can inspect agent decisions, data and tool usage to understand failures. Developers can bring existing agent frameworks, including LangGraph and OpenAI Agents SDK, into the platform.

Orkes Cloud provides fully managed, dedicated Conductor instances, either hosted by Orkes or within a customer’s cloud account. Customer-hosted deployments can keep compute and data in that account, while enterprise features include access controls, single sign-on, audit logs and private connectivity. Orkes pairs Conductor’s open-source core with managed operations and governance for teams running business-critical applications.
